Best way to kill flea's off your dog

Product Description
Whats the best way to kill fleas off my dog? is one of the most common questions you are asked while working at a pet store. There is no one best way but there is a fair number of ways. What i will do is list common methods and talk about how good it really is and rate how well it works out of 10.
* Flea Shampoo: This is the first thing people will usually try. Using flea shampoo will take most of the fleas off your dog but will not do anything to stop them from coming back which generally is the main problem people have. Of course some flea shampoos will be more effective than others but overall none are going to do a great job of stopping fleas from being on your dog. And yes it is a cheaper solution than most of the others to try and get rid of fleas. 3/10.
* Advantage, Advocate & Advantix: These are all listed together because they are all from the same company and have the same flea solution in them even though Advocate and Advantix do other things as well. These products seem to be the most effective of getting rid of fleas and keeping them off. Sure they still might not work for some people but 95% of people who use them have success and continue to use them after. They might not be the cheapest solution but they do work the best and really it will only cost about 50 cents a day using one of these, so its not to much to spend on something that will work. 9/10.
* Revolution: Another very good solution to stopping fleas on your dog. Revolution could even be put into the same category as the Advantage etc. because it seems to be very effective and has about the same success rate with people who use it. 9/10.
* Frontline: There was a time when Frontline was the best flea control out there, but that time has been and gone for them. Yes it still works for some people but i would guess about 80% of people it just doesn't work for anymore. Whether fleas have started to become immune to it or they have changed there solution that's in it, i don't know. But i do know it isn't anywhere near as effective as it once was. 4.5/10.
* Sentinel: Sentinel is the only product that actually treats everything, fleas, Heartworm and all the intestinal worms. But lets talk about how well it treats fleas. Well as far as we can tell it works as good as anything else, i cant remember hearing any complaints at all with how well sentinel works. But then again not as many people use sentinel, mainly because it probably isn't advertised as much as some of the other flea products. As sentinel is a tablet alot of dog owners wont bother because there dog just wont swallow a tablet no matter how hard you try. 8/10.
* Capstar: Capstar is another flea tablet, but this is different than sentinel in that this is just for knocking fleas off. Capstar will not stop fleas from coming back on your dog but it does do a very good job of taking them off. Some dog owners only use capstar giving there dog a tablet every few days and it seems to work for them. The best way i believe Capstar can be used is if you use it before you give them a dose of Advantage, Advocate, Advantix or Revolution. 6/10.
* Flea Collar: If there was a product to keep fleas off your dog for 5 months it would not be under $20.00. So although flea collars must do something? they don't do very much. I would say don't waste your money or time every trying this one. 1/10.
* Flea Powder: Flea powder is similar to flea shampoo and probably just as effective (which isn't very). Some people still insist on using it so it might work for them but again for most people it wont do very much. 3/10.
* Frontline Spray: Unlike regular Frontline, Frontline spray seems to work very well and alot of people have a good amount of success with it. Maybe it works better because people with it tend to treat there dogs more regularly, but as far as we can tell there isn't to many complaints if any about it. 8/10.
Hope this article helps when your deciding what flea treatment to get for your dog. This is all from personal experience of working at a pet store in Brisbane, Australian for years. So obviously there will be other opions on such a common subject but this is what i have consistently found anyway. Thanks for reading.
